This sweet cabin, aptly dubbed the Sugar Bowl Residence, is a wonderful, earthy blend of natural cedar and glass – a natural complement to its woody surroundings. Perched on a concrete platform, this raised house plan sits about the snow, its lower wood-clad volume housing the sleeping areas, mudroom and utility areas. The upper floors feature expansive windows that floor the living areas with natural light while framing the stunning mountain views. Like the facade, interiors boast lots of natural wood on floors, walls and ceilings, and the piece de resistance is the wood staircase with the sculptural suspended light installation dangling down. This chic lakefront cottage design makes an idyllic retreat – a gorgeous lake front location, flanked by trees and a killer view. The cottage is timber-clad, and the natural wood really blends beautifully with the surroundings. Located on Olympic Peninsula, Washington, this 1,920-sq.-ft. house designed by Seattle-based BjarkoSerra Architects was inspired by cabins in the Northwest, with a modern twist. There’s no shortage of rustic charms, with its Western Red Cedar wood-clad exterior, terraces and outdoor living areas, amazing windows and doors that invite the outdoors into every room. Fir tongue and groove boards, soapstone and concrete blend beautifully with this forest mountain environment. But the most unique idea is the observation loft, with the views to die for. In respect of the environment, no trees were cut and no land disrupted in the construction of this truly natural lakefront design. You got to build something like this too! The house features beautiful scenery while being well integrated within its surrounding landscape. The balconies and floor to ceiling windows invite its guests to contemplate the beautiful garden outside and the exotic pool. Come on the living room design. It is a comfortable square enclave 3 steps lower than the ground floor, guarded by a heavy cast iron fireplace. The sectional roof of the Bowen Mountain House is part of its allure, with a pavilion-style design that creates an open living space below.
