Madeleine and Coco, Emily, Lisa and Me!

I just returned from attending a fabulous lecture by published author, and fellow blogger, Emily Evans Eerdmans at the equally fabulous Evergreen House in Baltimore.

Emily took the audience on a historic trip from the time of Napoléon and his consort, Joséphine, along through the 1800s and right up until Madeleine Castaing’s death in the early 1990’s. A fascinating journey in beautiful rooms and stunning interiors, all with a thread connecting them through time.Madeleine Castaing by EEEEmily is just a delight… smart, funny and very well-versed. And she’s gorgeous, too!  One of the most interesting things that Emily said in her lecture is that Madeleine Castaing is the Coco Chanel of interior decorators. Her innovations, though sometimes subtle, are all around us in so many ways. Les GalsAnd Lisa? Lisa is my friend Lisa Simeone, former host of NPR’s Weekend All Things Considered and all ‘round gal about town. She and I attend a lot of these great lectures together!  Here we three are in the Leon Bakst Theatre at Evergreen. You can just see the stenciled roosters in the upper left of the image.

Tea Time

The continued cold temperatures in New York have me drinking lots of tea to warm up.  Now you can not only drink your tea but you can wear it too.  Well, not the tea itself but the new Tea Fragrance Blends from Jo Malone. They were kind enough to send me the collection and I can't get enough of the Sweet Milk scent.  It smells like crème brûlée mixed with coconut suntan lotion.  So yummy! I also love the Earl Grey & Cucumber and the Assam & Grapefruit but the Sweet Lemon and Fresh Mint Leaf colognes also smell good enough to eat, I mean drink.  Get them before they are gone.  Little cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off sold separately.

J.Crew Fall 2011 Preview

As I was walking up to Industria Studios yesterday afternoon for the J.Crew Fall 2011 preview, I saw Vogue editor Filipa Fina leaving.  She was wearing bright plum colored cropped pants.  Not sure if this was planned or a coincidence but it was definitely a harbinger of what was to come inside as viewed by the first looks above.  Obviously, I am already a fan of J.Crew but I have to say that I really loved the fall 2011 women's collection.  The saturated colors like orange and fuchsia are gorgeous and will look great mixed with pieces in grey and camel that you might already own.  Women's designer Marissa Webb treated her team to movie night where they were inspired by Bonnie and Clyde and The Great Gatsby.  The result is a mix of ladylike femininity and confident tailoring with a little whimsy thrown in for good measure.  I think my favorite for fall is all the resin jewelry that I definitely wanted to steal off the models.  Men's designer Frank Muytjens was inspired by photographer Lewis Hine and his photos of construction workers building the Empire State Building in the 1930's.  The silhouettes were slimmed for the modern man and are sure to be a hit this fall.  Actually, it's too bad that we have to wait until fall for these fashions since the weather is perfect for these looks! 






































I think J.Crew needs to hire Travis Gumbs and Joshua Kissi of Street Etiquette as models next season.  They were some of the most dapper men I've ever seen!

Marissa Webb and Jenna Lyons also make perfect J.Crew models.  Love those orange pants!

The Convertible Nursery and Guest Room

Sometimes it is not feasible to create both a nursery and a guest room, so homeowners are forced to combine the two for a convertible nursery and guest room.
